Complete Dentures

Guildford Denture Clinic provides quality complete dentures to our patients. Our staff ensure product quality and patient satisfaction by consulting with you about the process of designing accurate dentures. We
take into account your expectations, aesthetics and lifestyle issues, as well
as the most recent developments in technology advances. Our staff will then take the time to explain and recommend the best and most appropriate solutions for your particular needs.

Complete dentures are classified as either "conventional" or "immediate". Conventional false teeth are placed in the mouth about a month after all the natural teeth have been removed to allow for proper healing, whereas an immediate denture is placed as soon as the teeth are removed. The drawback behind an immediate denture is that it may require more adjustments after the healing has taken place.

Complete dentures are a matching set of full upper and full lower dentures that replace all of your teeth. There are 2 types of complete dentures: conventional complete dentures and immediate complete
dentures. Conventional Dentures can be fabricated in a time frame of between 3 to 5 appointments.

It is important to continue having regular checkups even after receiving your dentures so that a denturist can examine oral tissues for signs of
abnormalities. As you age, your mouth will continue to change as the bone under your dentures shrinks or recedes.

In order to maintain a proper fit over time, it may be necessary to adjust your dentures or possibly reevaluate them for relines or new dentures. Never attempt to adjust your dentures yourself, and do not use adhesives for a prolonged period because it can contribute to bone loss. When in doubt, please schedule a consultation with our registered denturists (RD).

PRECISION DENTURES

Some patients may have unusual conditions in their mouth or jaw joint (also known as Temporal Mandibular Joint or TMJ) which may require additional extensive measurements in order to properly fit a set of dentures. In these cases, precision dentures would provide the best fit and function in order to enjoy daily life activities, such as eating, speaking or laughing with confidence.

Precision dentures incorporate extensive measurements of your TMJ in order for the denturist to closely duplicate the natural movements of your jaw. Measurements are also used to guide the denturist in placing teeth for the best look and feel of your new dentures.

Immediate Dentures

DON'T MISS A DAY WITHOUT TEETH

Conventional dentures can’t be applied to your gums until the gums have healed completely from extractions, which can take 6 to 8 months, depending on how you heal. However, with immediate dentures you can
have an upper, lower or complete set of dentures inserted immediately following extractions. To make sure you don’t miss a day without a full smile, we take impressions for the creation of your dentures weeks before extractions are performed. This allows us to have a beautiful set of immediate dentures ready for you as soon as your extraction is done. After your extractions are complete and the dentist has inserted your immediate dentures, we will provide you with a temporary lining, which will help your gums during the healing period.

At our clinic, our licensed denturist will make your dentures in-house, meaning he will work with you from initial consultation to fabrication, fitting and follow-up.

With a Temporary Liner, We Can Provide You with a Full Smile Right Away

Our registered denturists (RDs) will make an impression of your existing teeth and gums prior to your surgery; those impressions will be utilized in the construction of your new dentures, duplicating your original teeth or even improving their appearance should you desire.

SOME GUIDELINES ON IMMEDIATE DENTURES:

In some cases, there is no way of trying on dentures prior to extractions.

Please carefully follow post-operative instructions received from your surgeon and denturists.

Temporary linings are advised to ensure a positive fit.

Please schedule regular check-ups to ensure ideal healing and the continued good fit of your dentures.

After your gums have completely healed, it is recommended that a permanent reline or measurements for a new denture be performed in order to ensure a comfortable and exact fit. Our RD's have the required
skills and years of experience to provide advice on options that best meet your specific needs.

POST-IMMEDIATE DENTURES

Post-immediate dentures are closer to standard dentures in terms of fit and fabrication.

The process, which takes a minimum of 3 – 6 weeks, is started after your gums have healed enough to take impressions. Before completion, you will be asked to come in for a fitting of your dentures to ensure a better fit that provides improved comfort and esthetics.

The decision to acquire immediate or post-immediate dentures is usually unique to your particular situation. Guildford Denture Clinic can provide assistance and guidance towards making the right choice for your needs.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures can be a great option for patients who are missing a few of their natural teeth. Unlike complete dentures, partial dentures are attached to your remaining natural teeth using clasps.

This device also is called a removable prosthesis, and is a means by which artificial replacement teeth are held in the mouth. The prosthesis commonly is kept in place by means of clasps. These are thin finger-like structures, usually made of a special resilient metal alloy or sometimes plastic, that rest upon and wrap around some remaining natural teeth. Clasps keep the prosthesis securely in place, but still allow a person to easily take it out for regular cleaning and proper brushing of remaining natural teeth.

IN ADDITION TO REPLACING MISSING TEETH, PARTIAL DENTURES CAN:

Improve ability to chew more naturally with confidence

Aid in the preservation of remaining natural teeth

Help prevent or treat problems of the TMJ (the jaw joint)

Improve speech and confident smile

Replace missing teeth in an economical way

In most cases, crowning teeth is not necessary to fit a partial denture

Partial dentures are usually made of acrylic, chrome or vellplast

A partial denture may be expected to last about 5 years, depending upon circumstances.

EXAMPLE OF PARTIAL DENTURES

Loose partial dentures can cause various problems, including sores or damage of the remaining natural teeth. It is best to have a partial denture, as well as the rest of the mouth, checked at six-month intervals.
